"Kat and Emily have grown up without their mother for almost as long as they can remember. And now Dad is with Cassy and they all muddle along together well enough - even though they are living in a cramped caravan while their new house is being renovated. Then Cassy and Dad tell them that Cassy is pregnant, and everything seems to shift. Emily feels a new urge to find her own mother. How could she have left them the way she did? Never writing to them? Not communicating with them? And as Emily begins her search, not knowing what she will find, she is at the same time embarking on a new relationship of her own, that of her romance with Seb. This is an evocative and finely drawn novel about family relationships, in particular that of mother and daughter, and the shifting emotions of a teenager trying to make sense of her family and her world."
The main female protagonist is Emily and she is going through some big changes. She is a really talented photographer who is a quiet, shy and mature . Her older sister is going to university and her family (that consists of 3 people) live in a cheap and really small caravan. She has to use those public toilets and showers that are in the area and in my opinion, that is not really a good environment for her. She is preparing for her A-levels and I can't really imagine trying to learn and live there...
She also meets Seb who is her first ever boyfriend and there are times when you can see how new she is to dating. They are very different people with very different views on life. However, he is the one who gets her to actually try to find her mother, who ran away with her French art teacher when Emily was 2.
I really didn't like her mother at all. She left her children with the dad when they were 2 and 4. I didn't sympathise with her and I really tried to empathise with her but no.... she thought only of herself and I guess she wasn't ready for motherhood.
I'm really glad that I read this book. This book was written beautifully and was quite poignant. It is a coming of age story about growing up and finding out who you actually are. It is really relatable and I highly recommend it!

"Fun, romantic and giddy, Camp Boyfriend brings
real romance to summer camp with grace, humor and passion." -
Carrie Jones, New York Times Best-selling Author of the NEED
series
Excerpt:
“If
you don’t play football, what will you do this fall?” Thunder rolled through
the camp, sending the last of the families scurrying indoors, leaving Matt and
I alone in the narrow, shadowed space.
Matt
cupped the back of my head and he lowered his nose until it touched mine.
“This,” he whispered, then captured my lips in a kiss more electrifying than
the war nature waged outside. His mouth was gentle at first, but the pressure
grew more insistent until we both gasped for breath. My head whirled and I
thought I’d black out until he lowered me to the bench.
The
warmth of his bare chest seeped into my soaked tank, the drumming of his heart
faster than the clattering rain. His lips left mine and travelled along my jaw
to my earlobe. I shuddered when he lightly nibbled, the shock of pleasure
intense.
My
hands slid along his back, the muscles bunching beneath my touch. I traced the
ridge of muscle above his hip and felt him tremble, his breath growing ragged.
But when his fingers tugged up the hem of my shirt I was the one who sounded
winded. His palms skimmed upward against my ribcage until they cupped my flesh,
driving me crazy. Only another kiss kept me from making a noise. The storm was
loud, but I didn’t want to risk alerting others that we were behind the water
curtain flowing in front of the dugout.
“Matt,”
I gasped, loving the feel of his hands on me, the pressure of his hips against
mine. I was as hot as a stoked furnace, heat sizzling everywhere at once. My
fingers buried themselves in the thick hair at the nape of his neck and I
pressed my lips to his, wanting more of him.
He
pulled me up and onto his lap. My hair dripped down my back as my head lolled,
his mouth leaving a trail of fire along my neck before dipping lower to my
clavicle and lower still. I kissed his brow, his temple, and his square jaw
while his mouth explored. I wanted it to go on and on, but suddenly he pulled
back, his chest rising and falling like one of those old-time bellows I’d seen
on a school field trip.
His
face was fierce, intense, every handsome feature sharpened. His hungry eyes
were backlit with fire as they roamed over me. Why had he stopped?
“Lauren,” he said when it seemed he’d finally
caught his breath. I’d never seen him this winded, not even after the endless
sprints of football practice. “If we go any farther I won’t be able to stop.”
His eyes
searched
mine, willing me to understand what he was saying.
“Oh.”
My cheeks went up in flames and scrambled off his lap. Thank god the heavy
waterfall had obscured us from view. I repositioned my bra and tugged down my
tank top. I pinched the bridge of my nose, feeling a headache coming on.
“Hey.”
Matt lifted my chin until I was forced to meet his warm blue-green eyes, the
color as inviting as a Caribbean vacation brochure. “There’s nothing to be
embarrassed about. You’re my girlfriend. I love you.”
My
heart seized. He’d dropped the L-bomb. We’d skirted around the word for months,
saying things like, “I love that about you” or just a casual “Love ya” that
sounded like friends. But this. It was huge. What to say? The obvious answer
was no answer, but a fierce need to return the words clawed to the surface and
fought its way out.
“I
love you too.”
He crushed me against his chest, his hands
twining in my frizzing waves. I did love
him, I marveled. His warmth. His sense of humor. His strength of purpose and
conviction. But was I in love with
him? That was the bigger question. One I had no clue how to answer.

Book Review: The Exemeus by Folami and Abeni Morris
The Exemeus
Genre: YA Fantasy
Genre: YA Fantasy
Age: 12-adult
Published: Jan. 3rd, 2013 by Royal Colours Ink
"Her short life was devoted to love and to hate. Love of the man who stole her heart, hate for the man who stole the world. Murdered by the government she swore to destroy, she's been given another chance to make it right. But to save the planet, she needs the help of the most powerful mystic the world has ever seen—unfortunately he hasn’t been born yet.
In a world where fear is the only currency, Dephon has committed the ultimate crime: inspiring hope.
His only goal is to make it safely through ninth grade, but on a post-apocalyptic Earth run by the Treptonian government, it isn’t that simple. Heir to a legendary power, Dephon Johnson is the only threat to the government’s rule. And on Trepton, all threats must be eliminated. When hundreds of assassins are dispatched to neutralize him, Dephon is forced to fight back. His only chance of survival is to enlist the aid of the greatest warrior the world has ever known. The only problem is, she's been dead for 13 years."
Let's start off by talking about the book trailer. I thought it was really cool and the illustrations of the city was just...wow. The only thing, is that the music kinda ruined it all. It was like those music that they played in those old action movies. They could've used a more futuristic and dark type of music to make the person feel more excited about the book. But anyways- on to the book.
It was really great book! It was really descriptive and painted very clear images in my head. The plot moved quite fast and their were always new twists and turns. Before I started to read this I thought it was the typical book of girl from past meets boy from the future and they fall in love but it is forbidden... blah blah blah. I have to say that this book is really original and is so different from any previous books I've read before. The book contains magic, war, time travelling, dictatorship? and pure action and yes, nearly all fantasy books contain an element of that albeit, I have to say this book is a breath of fresh air.
To be honest, I thought that the dystopia genre would be like the next cliche just like the vampire genre... *cough cough twilight cough* No offence to Twihards?? Is that what you call them?? Twilight did kill the whole genre. Now future movies, books or tv shows relating to vampires won't cause as much hype as it did before as it will be compared to Twilight- it may be due to how good Twilight was or how sickly and crappy Twilight was, but it would always be compared to Twilight.
I actually thought that it was fantastic how it was acutally a boy who was the main protagonist of this book because usually it is always the girl. I mean I'm all for the girl or woman saving the world but it does become old if it gets repeated over and over again.
Although, I loved how the whole story went to the past when Hyalee and Singletoon was actually doing loads of acting. I really didn't get to know Dephon or his realationship with his dad and how he feels about his mum. So, maybe for the next book, there might be snippets of them. God... I hope so.
Also, I don't know what year Dephon is living (did I miss it out??? oops) but I thought that the authors could've made a clear contrast between the time Hyalee and Singletoon were younger and the present time where Dephon is a teenager because, it kind of felt all the same... if you get were I mean. I didn't feel freedom that people had in the past or the atmosphere of the US when Dubleton took over... (he did take over right??) So yeah....
Basically, I loved this book so much. It was a shame that I didn't get a proper physical copy cos I would've hugged it but I have my phone which the e-copy is on right now so I would have to make do. I'm really happy at the end of when there is FINALLY some action for Dephon and cliffhanger isn't as huge as other books that I've read but, I have so many questions right now... it's killing me!!!
I seriously can't wait for the next book. Is there a next book.... there has to be a next book.....
but seriously... you should read it!

“Does it hurt? You know...when I’m around?”
He
was talking about the scar that still thrived at the side of her throat. The
one that appeared there after Valek left his first, initial bite months ago in
Francis’ home. The one that had ailed her since and nearly killed her until she
unwittingly saved herself by stabbing a hole in her own chest. Not her empty,
openly bleeding heart and her feeling of abandonment and being alone, but a
literal hole that she created herself some snowy weeks ago when she attempted
to end it all to prove herself as something more than just an expendable mortal
in this game of light and darkness. She wanted to finally be recognized as a
hero, nearly having killed herself for the sake of saving her friends from
Aiden. Knowing the tainted taste of the blood from her ruptured heart would
drive him away.
But
what did she have to prove for it now? Another giant scar. And more than that,
her nightmare came true. Valek was nowhere to be found, no matter how hard she
looked. After everything he did, and everything that had happened because of
his carelessness, she wasn’t sure how badly she wanted to find him. That
thought made her heart constrict. But then again, Aiden had disappeared as
well. At least there was that.
“Not really. Not as much as the emotional
pain underneath it,” she finally answered Nikolai’s question honestly. “The
heartbreak hurts worse than the scar ever could.”

“Good
afternoon and welcome to the Field House Grille. May I start you two off with
drinks or an appetizer today?” The waiter’s voice startles me out of my
conspiracy theories, and I resume perusing my menu.
“Yes,
I’ll have a long island ice tea and a white wine spritzer for the lady.”
Gregory orders with confidence. He’s only a year shy of the legal drinking age
so he may pass as old enough to get
served, but it’s obvious I’m not old enough to drink yet. “And then we’ll have
an order of the calamari to start and for our entrees she’ll have the sea bass,
and I’ll have the filet.” He shuts his menu and hands it back to the waiter
with bravado.
“I’ll
actually have a bottle of San
Pellegrino please,” I say, staring at my menu, trying to avoid the
embarrassment of being carded and then denied, or worse, my parents finding out
I tried to order an alcoholic drink, at the club no less. “And what salad would you recommend?” I start to ask, but the words get caught in my throat when I finally look up and see
the waiter.
Whoa.
He. Is.
Gorgeous.
“Well…our house
mixed salad is very popular. It’s locally grown organic and is fresh picked
daily. It comes with a light raspberry vinaigrette dressing that can be tossed
on or left on the side,” he says, holding my gaze.
“Oh. Yes. That
sounds… yummy.” The words come out all breathy, and I’m immediately humiliated
at the way I must have sounded.
Yummy. Breathy.
Seriously, Ashley?
“Then on the
side, miss?” the waiter asks, a faint smile playing on his lips.
“Yes, thank
you,” I say, feeling my face flush with warmth.
Apparently
Gregory Chase isn’t the only boy in town who can make a girl blush, and by the
daggers Gregory’s shooting the poor guy with his eyes, he knows it too.
Gregory clears
his throat and pulls the attention of the waiter back on him. “Fine. We’ll have
one house salad with dressing on the side and an order of calamari to start.”
Then with a dismissive flick of his hand, “Now, go fetch our drinks.”
Go fetch our
drinks? Is he serious? How can he think it’s okay to speak to someone that way?
But before I can say anything the cute waiter lets out an amused laugh that
surprises me.
“I’m sorry sir,
but I’m gonna have to see an ID first.” The waiter looks not at all sorry to
ask, which makes me have to hide a smile.
“You have got to
be kidding me,” Gregory starts. “I left it in the men’s locker room,” he
explains, but his confidence is shaken. No one ever challenges Gregory.
“I’m sorry sir,
but without a valid ID I’m not gonna be able to serve you, but I’ll be happy to
wait here while you go and get it.” The waiter gives Greg a fake smile and then
me a real one. He clearly is enjoying himself.
It’s evident
Greg’s not going to get his way, so he finally concedes, but without an ounce
of grace. “How about you take your eyes off my date, and go do your job.” He
levels the waiter with his eyes. “And just bring me a damn coke while you’re at
it.”
“Will do, sir,”
the waiter says with artificial politeness, giving Gregory an almost
imperceptible bow before turning around and leaving.
This time, I’m
the one who gets caught watching one of the waitstaff walk away.
Lane
“Dude, I just
busted some richie-rich for trying to order drinks underage, and he had the
nerve to yell at me for looking at his date. Too bad for him, she was looking
right back,” I say with a cocky laugh before giving Mario a high five. “Man,
it’s the jerks like that, that always get everything in life—the money, the
power, the girl. Probably has some big fat trust fund to pay for college too.”
“Sorry, man, but
try not to let him get under your skin, amigo.”
I know Mario’s
right, I should just let it go, but I’m sick and tired of Stays treating us
locals like we’re nothing. And who the hell tells someone to ‘go fetch’? What
am I? A dog? What an ass.
I drum my
fingers against the metal counter at the pass until Mario rings the service bell with a grin and hands me their starters.
“Here, orders up
and good luck.”
I give him a nod
then try to shove my jealousy and anger down when I enter the dining room
again, but I feel it hovering right on the surface. I take a deep breath before
setting the calamari in the center of the table and the salad in front of the
girl.
“Is there
anything else I can get you right now?” I ask, and it’s hard to keep my eyes
off of her long dark hair, her light green eyes and her legs that go on for
miles. Maybe that douche had a point.
“No, I’m fine.
Thank you,” she says politely, and I wonder why she’s on a date with such an
ass-hat. Either way, girls like her don’t date boys like me. Unless they’re
trying to piss off their parents, which is fine by me, but she doesn’t look
like the rebellious type.
I turn to face
him, lifting my eyebrows. “And you?” I ask because it’s my job.
“Yes, there is
something you can do for me, how about you explain why my silverware is off of
the floor.” He holds up his dinner fork, but I don’t understand what he’s
talking about. Off the floor?
“Excuse me?” I
reach for the fork to examine it. I personally set this table less than an hour
ago, and the silverware hadn’t touched the ground. Why would it? But right
before I’m able to take the fork from him for a closer look he opens his thumb
and pointer finger letting the fork fall to the hardwood floor with a loud ping
that echoes through the dining room.
“See.” He looks
me right in the eyes, a smirk plastered across his smug face, challenging me.
You have got to
be kidding me. This guy picked the wrong day.
I calmly pick
the fork up off the ground, bring it to my mouth and spit on the tongs before
lifting my apron and polishing it until it’s dry and shining. So much for not
letting him get under my skin.
“My apologies,
sir.” I place the fork back on the table in front of him like I’d accidentally
brought out the wrong appetizer instead of spitting all over the dude’s
silverware. “If there’s anything else I can do for you please let me know,
otherwise your entrees will be out shortly.”
I watch his eyes go wide with shock
before walking away looking cool, calm, and collected, even though on the
inside I’m totally freaking out. This is not going to end well.

All I want is my happily-ever-after.
That's all I've wanted since meeting Noah Miller.
From the day we met, the world has tried to keep Noah and me from being together, but now that I'm carrying his child, no one will be able to tear us apart. Or so I hope. But Noah and I have made some mistakes along the way, and the consequences are impacting the people we love. Worse, there's a storm on the horizon, and it's sure to cause serious devastation.
If we can get through this, we'll finally be Rose and Noah; a family, forever.
But first we have to survive the road ahead. And happily-ever-after is a long way off.
About Karen Ann Hopkins

A native of New York State, Karen Ann Hopkins now lives with her family on a farm in northern Kentucky, where her neighbors in all directions are members of a strict Amish community. Her unique perspective became the inspiration for the story of star-crossed lovers Rose and Noah. When she’s not homeschooling her kids, giving riding lessons or tending to a menagerie of horses, goats, peacocks, chickens, ducks, rabbits, dogs and cats, she is dreaming up her next romantic novel.

Your heart misleads you.
That's what my friends and family say.
But I love Noah.
And he loves me.
We met and fell in love in the sleepy farming community of Meadowview, while we rode our horses together through the grassy fields and in those moments in each other's arms.
It should be ROSE & NOAH forever, easy.
But it won't be.
Because he's Amish.
And I'm not.

I left everything I knew behind.
But it was worth it. He was worth it.
No one thought an ordinary girl like me would last two minutes living with the Amish, not even me. There are a lot more rules and a lot less freedom, and I miss my family and the life I once had. Worst of all, Noah and I aren't even allowed to see each other. Not until I've proven myself.
If I can find a way to make it work, we'll be NOAH & ROSE
together forever.
But not everybody believes this is where I belong.
